Bird Carrier Size

Selecting the right bird carrier size is essential for your pet’s comfort and safety during travel. The carrier should be large enough for your bird to stand comfortably, turn around, and spread their wings partially. However, it shouldn’t be so large that the bird is thrown around during sudden stops or turbulence. A good rule of thumb is to choose a carrier that is about one and a half times the bird’s wingspan in width and tall enough for them to stand upright without touching the roof. For smaller birds like budgies or finches, a compact, lightweight carrier is usually sufficient, while larger birds like parrots or cockatoos require more spacious carriers. The carrier should have enough room for a small perch and a few toys to keep your bird occupied during the journey. When traveling by air, make sure the carrier meets the airline’s size regulations, which are typically more stringent than those for car travel.
