Bird safety should be a top priority during any type of travel. Ensure the carrier is escape-proof with secure locks and durable construction. For car travel, always secure the carrier with a seatbelt or place it on a flat, stable surface to prevent it from tipping over. Avoid placing the carrier near airbags or in areas exposed to direct sunlight. If traveling by air, choose a carrier approved by the airline, and double-check that all latches and openings are securely closed before checking in. Keep the carrier in a well-ventilated area and avoid covering it completely, as this can restrict airflow. During the journey, monitor your bird for signs of stress or discomfort, such as excessive vocalization, fluffed feathers, or lethargy. If traveling during extreme weather conditions, take extra precautions to regulate the carrier’s temperature and protect your bird from drafts. Always have a backup plan in case of emergencies, including a list of avian vets along your route.
